Urban Outdoor Adventure Initiative | Bandon

This new initiative for 2026 will focus on maximising the use of the River Bandon as a community amenity.

The Urban Outdoors Adventure Initiative is a project funded by Dormant Accounts and supported by Sport Ireland across the country. The overarching goal is to improve sport and physical activity opportunities within an urban setting.

Due to recent flood relief work in the area, the River Bandon could now be safely used and accessed as a community amenity and space for water and land-based activities. Cork Local Sports Partnership will work with strong partners including Kinsale OEC and Cork County Council to activate the river and provide opportunities for all including specific target groups in particular. This project will include programmes, campaigns and capital projects which will add to the long-term impact of the initial funding. These will be designed and outlined following consultation with specific target groups, regional development partners and local groups and clubs.

Activities will include kayaking, orienteering and fishing initiatives.

This initiative is in the planning stages but if you have any further questions you can contact Alison at [email protected]
