Empowering Women Through Adventure

Women in the Outdoors Programme 2025

From September to November 2025, Cork Sports Partnership, in collaboration with Mountaineering Ireland, successfully delivered another inspiring year of the Women in the Outdoors Programme. This initiative continues to grow in impact and popularity, supporting women to build confidence, develop outdoor skills, and discover new ways to enjoy Ireland’s natural landscapes.

This year, 22 women took part in the programme, each taking positive steps toward becoming more active in the outdoors. Through a series of practical, skill-based sessions, participants were introduced to a wide range of activities led by experienced instructors and partner organisations.

A Diverse Range of Outdoor Experiences

We were fortunate to work with an incredible network of partners who provided high-quality, supportive, and engaging experiences across the 10-week programme. Activities included:

🪵 Bushcraft Skills – Kinsale Outdoor Education Centre

Participants learned essential outdoor survival skills including shelter-building, fire-making, and nature awareness.

🚣 Paddlesports Skills – Ballyhass Adventure Group

Women gained confidence on the water while learning foundational paddling techniques in a fun and safe environment.

🧭 Introduction to Orienteering – Orienteering Ireland

This session introduced the fundamentals of map reading, navigation, and route choices, helping participants feel more capable exploring independently.

🥾 Guided Hill Walk – Maureen O’Brien Navigation & Hillwalking

A scenic guided hike in beautiful West Cork allowed women to put some of their new navigation skills into practice while enjoying Cork’s beautiful trails.

⛑️ First Aid Training – ComplyPro

Participants received essential first aid knowledge tailored to the outdoors, enhancing their safety and preparedness.

⛰️ Mountain Skills 1 – Mountaineering Ireland

As a culminating module, participants completed Mountain Skills 1, gaining deeper awareness of mountain navigation, route planning, and environmental care.

A Collaborative Effort

We extend a heartfelt thank‑you to all our partners for their expertise, enthusiasm, and commitment. Their involvement ensures that each participant receives a high-quality and memorable learning experience.
