On Friday June 6th 2025, the Ballinacarriga community came together to celebrate the official opening of the FitSticks Trail—a brand-new, 1km walking path designed for activator poles, promoting health, accessibility, and outdoor activity for all ages.
The launch event saw over 50 local residents take part in the inaugural walk, kicking off with a group warm-up in the Ballinacarriga Community Hall before setting out on the trail. Using activator poles, walkers enjoyed a gentle yet effective way to improve posture, mobility, and overall fitness.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, children from the local primary school joined in, walking the trail before heading to the community sports field for a fun-filled sports day.
The trail was officially opened by Cork County Councillor Deirdre Kelly, who praised the project for fostering community wellness and inclusivity.
“This trail is a fantastic asset for Ballinacarriga, offering a safe and accessible way for people of all ages and abilities to stay active. It’s a testament to what can be achieved when communities and local organizations work together.“
