Since it first started more than six years ago, thousands of school children have participated in Tri Heroes and become fully fledged duathletes and triathletes.
WHAT IS TRI HEROES?
Tri Heroes teaches primary and secondary school pupils of all ages and abilities cycling, running and where facilities allow – swimming – all without leaving the school!
The programme has been designed by Triathlon Ireland to be both fun and challenging; and can be run as part of a school’s curriculum or as an after school activity.
At the end of the course (which is normally run over five 45min sessions), each student gets the chance to take part in a mini-duathlon (bike-run) or mini-triathlon (swim-bike-run).

Tri Heroes courses are delivered by Triathlon Ireland’s Development Officers and qualified coaches. The course can also be delivered by PE Teachers using the step-by-step guide below
- It is delivered over 5 x 1 hour sessions by a qualified Triathlon Ireland Coach.The sessions primarily include cycling, running and transition, culminating in a mini duathlon (run-cycle-run) event on the last day. Your school must have access to facilities such as a playing field, playground or outdoor pitches/astro turf. Students must have access to bikes and helmets. If they want to share bikes and helmets we can work around that too.
- Alternatively if you have access to a pool we can adjust the programme to include a swim session and a mini triathlon (swim-cycle-run) as the event on the last day.
- Delivery of the programme will commence on a date that is agreeable to the school and the assigned coach.
- The programme costs 10 euro per student. If you are a deis school there is no charge.
- If you have a teacher in the school who would like to deliver the programme themselves we can provide the programme details including session plans, skills cards and guidance on how to set up your mini event. Please contact us if you wish to avail of this. There is no charge for this method of delivery.
