Wheelchair Basketball4All Event Details:
A unique experience!
The aim of this event is to allow all students the opportunity to experience adapted physical activity in a fun, supportive and inclusive environment through wheelchair basketball. We kindly ask that schools who are interested in attending agree to send up to a maximum of 15 TY students, accompanied by a teacher or teachers. Students will be provided with all equipment necessary on the day of the event and no prior experience is necessary. This will also serve as a fundraiser for Irish Wheelchair Association Sport, with each participating school requested to make a single online donation of €200 for this cause, with further details to follow when the list of schools attending has been confirmed. It is encouraged that TY students attending this event also organise an event in their respective schools to contribute towards this fundraiser.
Learn Practical Skills!
In addition to the Wheelchair Basketball4All event itself, there will be a CSP and IWA Sport led leadership training programme for TY students in the Mardyke Arena on Thursday, 29th February, from 9.30am and 2.30pm. This training programme is open to all schools, irrespective of their willingness or availability to participate in the Wheelchair Basketball4All event. Each school will be invited to nominate and send two TY students who they feel would be suitable for and benefit from this opportunity. It is envisaged that this training will help support these students, and in turn their peers, to become leaders or champions within the disability sports sector, both within their schools and the wider community.
