A physical activity camp for children attending paediatric primary care services.

FunFit Summer Camp

FunFit is a community-based physical activity programme for children aged 7-12. The programme has been developed in Cork through an ongoing partnership between Cork Sports Partnership, Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, Health Promotion & Improvement Physical Activity team, and primary care Paediatric Physiotherapists.

A new summer camp format will be coordinated for 2025 as part of pilot.

Access to the summer camp is via HSE referral only for 2025. 

Who is the FunFit Summer Camp for?

Children between the ages of 7 and 12 who have underdeveloped gross movement skills due to a range of diagnoses (or awaiting diagnosis), as well as those who live sedentary lifestyles. Please use the eligibility criteria overleaf as a guide to suitability.

Criteria to consider when identifying children who may be suitable for FunFit:

  • Underdeveloped gross movement skills
  • Noticeable lack of coordination in PE
  • Clumsiness, falling over a lot
  • Difficulty with running, jumping, balancing
  • Lack of engagement in physical activity in school.
  • Lack of confidence around sports or physical activity
  • Inactive, sedentary lifestyle
  • Children with DCD (Developmental coordination disorder) or hypermobility

How long does the summer camp run for?

The summer camp is 3 days long, starting Monday, 30th June and finishing Wednesday, July 2nd.

Each day is 2 hours long.

There are camps for 2 age groups:

  • 7-9 year olds from 10am to 12 noon
  • 10-12 year olds from 12.30 to 2.30pm

Where will the summer camp take place?

The summer camp will take place at a venue on the northside of Cork City, which will be confirmed in the coming weeks. 

How can I apply for a place for my child?

To register your interest in taking part in the FunFit Summer camp, please fill out the short form using the following link. Following submission, a member of the FunFit team will be in contact to discuss your application. 

If deemed suitable for the camp, a payment link for the summer camp and additional information will be sent to you to confirm your place.
